Liftgate Indicator Always On

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Disconnect Black 2-pin liftgate ajar switch connector, located in center of liftgate. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER and INPUT/OUTPUT. LIFTGATE AJAR SW state should be OPEN. If switch state is not open, go to next step. If switch state is open, replace liftgate ajar switch.
  2. Disconnect 26-pin Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector, located below pad in center of instrument panel. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER and INPUT/OUTPUT. LIFTGATE AJAR SW state should be OPEN. If switch state is not open, go to next step. If switch state is open, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - PT CRUISER article.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between liftgate ajar switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (Tan/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Tan/Black wire. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article.
