Liftgate Indicator Inoperative

  1. Disconnect Black 2-pin liftgate ajar switch connector, located in center of liftgate. Using a jumper wire, connect harness connector terminal No. 1 (Tan/Black wire) to ground. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER and INPUT/OUTPUT. LIFTGATE AJAR SW state should be CLOSED. If switch state is not closed, go to next step. If switch state is closed, replace liftgate ajar switch. After repair, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Remove jumper wire. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black wire to ground, located on left quarter panel, below window. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article. After repair, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
