Seat Belt Indicator Problem

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Monitor seat belt indicator. Turn ignition on. Fasten seat belt. Unfasten seat belt. If indicator stays on with belt fastened, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate with belt unfastened, go to step  6. If indicator did not illuminate at any time, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article.
  2. Fasten seat belt. Using scan tool, check DV SEAT BELT SW status. If status is not OPEN, go to next step. If status is OPEN, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article. Disconnect 2-pin seat belt switch connector, located on "B" pillar. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal No. 20, driver seat belt indicator driver circuit (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is 1000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair Light Green/Red wire for short to ground.
  4. Connect seat belt switch. Fasten seat belt. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal No. 20, driver seat belt indicator driver circuit (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, replace seat belt switch.
  5. Replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article.
  6. Unfasten seat belt. Using scan tool, check DV SEAT BELT SW status. If status is not CLOSED, go to next step. If status is CLOSED, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-pin seat belt switch connector, located on "B" pillar. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between switch terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace driver seat belt switch.
  8. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black wire to ground, located on left quarter panel, below window.
  9. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of driver seat belt indicator driver circuit (Light Green/Red wire) between instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal No. 20 and switch terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PT CRUISER article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Light Green/Red wire.
