Transmission Verification Test
- Remove all test equipment and jumper wires. Connect any disconnected components. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear all transmission DTCs and DTC P0770 from PCM. Using scan tool, monitor transmission fluid temperature. Start engine and allow transmission temperature to reach HOT (more than 100°F). Check fluid level and fill as necessary. Do not overfill. If fluid is visible on dipstick, do not add fluid until transmission temperature is 180°F. Go to next step.
- If TCM or torque converter has been replaced, or transmission has been repaired or replaced, perform DRBIII® quick learn procedure. Road test vehicle while monitoring engine RPM. Perform to following;
- 15-20 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts from a standing start to 45 MPH with constant throttle opening of 20-25 degrees.
- 5-8 wide open throttle kickdowns to first gear, from less than 25 MPH. Allow at least 5 seconds in 2nd and 3rd gear between each kickdown. Go to next step.
- For specific transmission DTCs, drive vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs from all modules. If no DTCs exist and customer's complaint cannot be duplicated, system is operating correctly and repair is complete. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
