Open Liftgate Fails To Trip Alarm

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Open liftgate. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read LIFTGATE AJAR SW status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace liftgate ajar switch.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. Turn all lights off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between liftgate harness connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black wire to ground, located on left quarter panel, below window.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector, located under pad in center of instrument panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of liftgate ajar switch sense circuit (Tan/Black wire) between liftgate ajar switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and RKE module connector terminal No. 14. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Tan/Black wire.
