Body Control Modules: Description
WARNING:
Vehicle is equipped with an air bag restraint system. For additional information on air bag restraint system and before attempting any repairs involving instrument panel, steering column or related components, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
article in RESTRAINTS.
The body control computer system consists of a combination of modules that communicate over the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) multiplex system (bus). Through the PCI bus, information related to the operation of vehicle components and circuits are relayed to the appropriate system module(s). This reduces the complexity of vehicle wiring and size of wiring harness.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are accessed through a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) using Chrysler Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool or generic scan tool. DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, above brake pedal.
Modules connected to the PCI bus include the following;
- Air Bag Control Module (ACM)/Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
- Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module/Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB)
- Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) Module
- Body Control Module (BCM)
- Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC)
- Left And Right Side Impact Air Bag Control Modules (SIACM)
- Memory Heat Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM) (If Equipped)
- Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS) (If Equipped)
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Radio/CD Player (If Equipped)
- Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) (If Equipped)
- Transmission Control Module (TCM)
