Recliner Sensor Out Of Range High

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform MEMORY HEATED SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Monitored & Set Condition

  1. When Monitored: Ignition on.
  2. Set Condition: This condition is immediately set when the seat motor potentiometer feeds a value higher than the Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module has stored in EEPROM.

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver seat recliner motor sensor connector. Measure resistance between ground and driver seat recliner motor sensor connector terminal "C", ground circuit (Brown/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, leave driver seat recliner motor sensor disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step  3 .
  2. Disconnect Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM) connector C2. Measure resistance of seat position sensor ground circuit (Brown/Red wire) between driver seat recliner motor sensor connector terminal "C" and MHSMM connector C2 terminal No. 16. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms or less, replace MHSMM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT/MIRROR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Red wire.
  3. Connect driver seat recliner motor sensor connector. Ensure all other seat motor sensor connectors are connected. Ensure recliner motor is operational. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, monitor RECLINER POSITION SENSOR voltage while operating recliner motor to both limits. If voltage display is more than 7 volts while motor is operating, replace seat track assembly. See POWER SEATS article. If voltage display is never more than 7 volts while motor is operating, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect driver seat recliner motor sensor connector. Disconnect Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM) connector C1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and driver seat recliner motor sensor connector terminal "C", seat sensor ground circuit (Brown/Red wire). If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Red wire. If no voltage exists, leave driver seat recliner motor sensor connector disconnected and go to next step.
  5. Measure voltage between ground and driver power seat recliner sensor motor connector terminal "A", seat sensor 5-volt supply circuit (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 5.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire. If voltage is 5.5 volts or less, leave driver seat recliner motor sensor connector disconnected and go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Ensure MHSMM connector C1 is properly connected. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read REAR RECLINER POSITION SENSOR voltage. If voltage is more than 0.2 volt, replace MHSMM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT/MIRROR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is 0.2 volt or less, replace seat track assembly. See POWER SEATS article.
