Mechanical Instrument Cluster
Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) includes a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge, voltmeter, Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display and a series of warning lights.
Body Control Module (BCM) sends signals necessary for MIC to position gauges. MIC receives these messages through the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) multiplex system (bus) and translates them into gauge positions. BCM sends status of all indicator lights and dimming level to MIC over PCI bus when ignition switch is in RUN or START positions. Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)/CHECK ENGINE light status is sent to BCM from Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over PCI bus. Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) odometer/trip display works when ignition switch is in RUN or START positions. BCM stores mileage information that odometer displays. If PCI bus is not functioning, odometer will display NO BUS instead of the mileage numbers. BCM sends mileage message and dimming level message to VF display when ignition switch is in the ACC position. All other MIC features work only when the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
