No PCI Messages From CD Changer

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Monitored & Set Condition

  1. When Monitored: With the ignition on and the radio on.
  2. Set Condition: If the scan tool interrogates the CD changer and does not receive the proper response form the CD changer.

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Turn radio on. Using scan tool, select BODY, then RADIO. If scan tool communicates with radio, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with radio, See BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Turn radio off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the radio C2 connector (DIN cable) from the radio and the CD Changer. See Figure . Visually inspect DIN cable connectors and connecting DIN cable for damage. Repair or replace as necessary. If connectors and cable appear okay, go to next step.
  3. Check each DIN cable circuit between CD changer DIN cable connector and radio DIN cable Black connector C2 for an open circuit. See RADIO in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If problem exists, replace DIN cable/connector assembly. If no problems exist, go to next step.
  4. Check each DIN cable circuit between CD changer DIN cable connector and radio DIN cable Black connector C2 for a short circuit to DIN cable metal connectors. If problem exists, replace DIN cable/connector assembly. If no problems exist, go to next step.
  5. Check each DIN cable circuit between CD changer DIN cable connector and radio DIN cable Black connector C2 for short circuit(s) to each other. See RADIO in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If problem exists, replace DIN cable/connector assembly. If no problems exist, go to next step.
  6. NOTE: Steps  68 are written specifically for use with Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool.
  7. Connect Scope Input Cable (CH7058) to channel one connector on scan tool. Connect Red and Black leads and Cable-To-Probe Adapter (CH7062) to scope input cable. Go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, select DRB STANDALONE, LAB SCOPE, LIVE DATA, then 12-VOLT SQUARE WAVE. Press F2 for scope. Press F2 again and use down arrow to set voltage range to 20 volts. Press F2 again. Go to next step.
  9. Reconnect radio DIN cable Black connector C2. Connect Black lead to chassis ground. Connect Red lead to CD changer DIN cable connector terminal No. 6, PCI bus circuit (Violet/Yellow wire). Turn ignition on. Turn radio on. Observe voltage display on scan tool lab scope. If voltage pulses from zero to about 7.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage remains at zero volts, replace radio. See Figure -Figure .
  10. Turn ignition off. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe CD changer DIN cable connector terminal No. 5, ignition switch output circuit (Red wire). Turn ignition on. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace radio.
  11. Turn ignition off. Using 12-volt test light connected to battery voltage, probe CD changer DIN cable connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit (Black/Yellow wire). If test light illuminates, replace CD changer. If test light does not illuminate, replace radio.
