Passenger Seat Heat Output Short To GND

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform MEMORY HEATED SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Monitored & Set Condition

  1. When Monitored: Ignition on, during the heated seat operation.
  2. Set Condition: This code is set immediately after the Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module detects an output shorted to ground.

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition on. Raise passenger seat to highest position to gain access to seat components and connectors. Turn ignition off. Disconnect passenger heated seat cushion 4-pin connector. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 20 seconds. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY MEMORY SEAT MODULE, then retrieve DTCs. If PASSENGER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GND DTC resets, leave passenger heated seat cushion 4-pin connector disconnected and go to next step. If PASSENGER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GND DTC does not reset, go to step  3 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Raise driver seat to highest position to gain access to seat components and connectors. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM) connector C3. Measure resistance between ground and MHSMM connector C3 terminal No. 6, passenger seat heater B+ driver circuit (Red/Tan wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Tan wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace MHSMM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT/MIRROR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Ensure passenger heated seat cushion 4-pin connector is properly connected. Disconnect passenger heated seat back cushion 2-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and passenger heated seat back cushion connector (component side) terminal "A", passenger heated seat driver circuit. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace passenger heated seat back cushion. See POWER SEATS article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, leave passenger heated seat back cushion 2-pin connector disconnected and go to next step.
  4. Disconnect passenger heated seat cushion 4-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and passenger heated seat back cushion 4-pin connector (component side) terminal "A", heated seat driver circuit. See Figure . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in heated seat driver circuit. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave passenger heated seat back 4-pin connector disconnected and go to next step.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and passenger heated seat cushion 4-pin connector (component side) terminal "A", passenger seat heater B+ circuit (Red/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace passenger heated seat cushion. See POWER SEATS article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
