Remote Keyless Entry Horn Chirp Inoperative
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
Possible Causes:
- Check The Horn Operation
- Check The RKE Horn Chirp Status
- Junction Block - Horn Relay Control Circuit Open
- Body Control Module - Horn Relay Control Open
Testing
- Press horn pad on steering wheel. If horn is operating properly, go to next step. If horn does not operate properly, repair horn as necessary. See HORN SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read HORN CHIRP status. If scan tool displays ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ENABLED, enable horn chirp using scan tool.
- Turn ignition off. Remove Body Control Module (BCM) from back of junction block. Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 18 at BCM connector on back of junction block. See Figure . If horn sounds, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If horn does not sound, replace junction block. See JUNCTION BLOCK under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
