Vibration Damper: Removal

  1. Remove radiator upper crossmember.
    1. Mark bolt locations on the radiator upper crossmember.
    2. Remove bolts attaching windshield washer bottle and speed servo, if equipped. (Refer to Figure.)
    3. Remove headlamp jackscrews both sides.
    4. Remove fasteners attaching upper bumper fascia.
    5. Remove bolts attaching the upper forward edge of upper radiator closure panel.
    6. Remove bolts attaching upper radiator closure panel
    7. Disconnect hood latch cable from hood latch.
    8. Remove upper radiator closure panel from vehicle.
    9. For replacement of upper radiator upper crossmember, remove hood latch, and any other hardware.
  2. Remove radiator fan (Refer to RADIATOR FAN ASSEMBLY ) and accessory drive belts (Refer to DRIVE BELTS - 2.7L ).
  3. Remove damper center bolt while holding the damper with Special Tool 8191 (Fig 1).
    CAUTION: Before removing damper, verify that A/C belt tensioner is not contacting the damper, as damage could occur to tensioner, timing chain cover, and/or damper.

  4. Remove damper by using Special Tools 8194 Insert and 1023 Three Jaw Puller (Fig 2).
