Output Speed Sensor

Output speed sensor uses a magnetic pick-up coil to generate an AC voltage input signal when trigger teeth on output shaft pass magnetic pick-up coil. See Figure. PCM uses input signal to determine output shaft speed. PCM compares output speed sensor signal against input speed sensor signal to determine gear ratio and clutch slippage. Output speed sensor signal is also compared to throttle position sensor signal to determine transaxle shift points.

Output speed sensor signal is also used for determining vehicle speed. Vehicle speed signal is delivered to PCM. PCM delivers vehicle speed signal on bus data line for use by other vehicle control modules.
