AIR BAG Warning Indicator Not Operating Properly
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
Possible Causes:
- Air Bag Trouble Codes
- Other Instrument Cluster DTC's
- Perform Instrument Cluster Self Test
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Air Bag Control Module (ACM). If scan tool communicates with ACM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with ACM, perform NO RESPONSE FROM ACM test under COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve ACM DTCs. If no ACM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any ACM DTCs exist, repair air bag system as necessary. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- To start bulb test, turn ignition off, then on. If AIRBAG warning indicator does not illuminate for 5-10 seconds, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article. If AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates for 5-10 seconds, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
