Cluster Illumination Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure . Using scan tool, read ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If scan tool does not display PANEL DIMMER OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool displays PANEL DIMMER OPEN, perform PANEL DIMMER OPEN  test.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 26-pin instrument cluster connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Turn park lights on. Using test light connected to ground, probe instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 14. See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open wire.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Remove and check instrument cluster bulbs. Replace bulbs as necessary. If bulbs are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
