Temperature Display Inoperative Or Wrong

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the ambient remperature sensor harness connector. Measure the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor. See AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table in SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If the ambient temperature sensor resistance is within the min/max specifications, go to next step. If the ambient temperature sensor resistance is not within the min/max specifications, replace the ambient temperature sensor.
  2. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Measure the voltage between the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit and ground. If there is voltage present, repair the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage. If there is no voltage present, go to next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Disconnect the compass/temperature mirror harness connector. Measure the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit between the sensor connector and the compass/temperature mirror connector. If the resistance is more than 5.0 ohms, repair the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit for an open. If the resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Disconnect the compass/temperature mirror harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit. If the resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, repair the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is more than 5.0 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Disconnect the compass/temperature mirror harness connector. Measure the resistance between the ambient temperature sensor ground circuit and the sensor signal circuit. If the resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit for a short to the sensor ground circuit. If the resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Disconnect the compass/temperature mirror harness connector. Measure the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor ground circuit between the sensor connector and the compass/temperature mirror connector. If the resistance is more than 5.0 ohms, repair the ambient temperature sensor ground circuit for an open. If the resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, the test is complete.
