Sentry Key Immobilizer Module

Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) prevents unauthorized vehicle operation. Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS) consists of the SKIM and ignition keys equipped with a transponder chip (Sentry Keys). SKIM communicates with other modules via the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) bus circuit.

SKIM sends messages to Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) module to control Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) indicator light. EMIC module performs VTSS indicator light check when ignition switch is turned to RUN or START position. EMIC turns indicator light on for about 3 seconds. If indicator light remains on, SKIM has determined a system malfunction exists or SKIS has become inoperative. If invalid key is inserted in ignition switch and turned to RUN position, SKIM will flash VTSS light.
