Open Passengers Door Fails To Trip Alarm

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Close all passenger's doors. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. Observe scan tool display while each passenger's door is opened. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED while each passengers door is open, go to appropriate step. See PASSENGERS DOOR TEST  table. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED while each door is open, recheck system operation. If any passenger's door will not trip alarm, replace Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
    PASSENGERS DOOR TEST

    Door Go to Step
    Right Front  2
    Left Rear  4
    Right Rear  6
    All Passenger's Doors  8
  2. Open Right Front (RF) door. Ensure all other passengers doors are closed. Disconnect RF door ajar switch connector. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe RF door ajar switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open on wire.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between RF door ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, sense circuit and ground. Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RF door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open on wire.
  4. Open Left Rear (LR) door. Ensure all other passenger doors are closed. Disconnect LR door ajar switch connector. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe LR door ajar switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open on wire.
  5. Connect a jumper wire between LR door ajar switch connector, door ajar switch sense circuit and ground. Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace LR door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open on wire.
  6. Open Right Rear (RR) door. Ensure all other passenger doors are closed. Disconnect RR door ajar switch connector. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe RR door ajar switch connector terminal No. 2, ground circuit. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open wire.
  7. Connect a jumper wire between RR door ajar switch connector, door ajar switch sense circuit and ground. Using scan tool, read PASS DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace RR door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open wire.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RKE module connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of passenger's door ajar switch sense circuit between each door ajar switch connector terminal No. 1 and RKE module connector terminal No. 7. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open wire.
