Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (Skim)
Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS) prevents unauthorized vehicle operation. SKIS consists of the SKIM and ignition keys equipped with a transponder chip (sentry keys). SKIM communicates with other modules via the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) bus circuit.
SKIM sends messages Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) to control Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) indicator light. EMIC module performs VTSS indicator light check when ignition switch is turned to RUN or START position. EMIC turns indicator light on for about 3 seconds. If indicator light remains on, SKIM has determined a system malfunction exists or SKIS has become inoperative. If invalid key is inserted in ignition switch and turned to RUN position, SKIM will flash VTSS light. If invalid key is turned to START position, vehicle will start and run for 2 seconds, then shut off. For additional information on SKIS, see ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - PT CRUISER article.
