Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: Self-diagnostic tests are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII) scan tool. A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.
  1. Perform pretest inspection. See PRETEST INSPECTION  in TROUBLE SHOOTING. If pretest inspection procedure has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with all modules. If communication is established with all modules, go to next step. If communication is not established with any module, perform appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. NOTE: Scan tool messages are listed by system affected, not by reporting module. Perform appropriate test under appropriate section under SYSTEM TESTS .
  4. Using scan tool, retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from all modules. If any DTCs exist, perform corresponding DTC test(s) in affected system in SYSTEM TESTS . See SYMPTOM INDEX  table. If no DTCs exist, repair by corresponding symptom test(s) in affected system in SYSTEM TESTS . See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
