DTC P0513: Invalid Skim Key: Testing
- Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, read the PCM DTCs. Does the Good Trip counter display No? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
- With the DRBIII®, attempt to communicate with the SKIM. Turn the ignition on. Can the DRBIII® communicate with the SKIM? If yes, go to next step. If no, diagnose communication fault. See BUS +/- SIGNAL OPEN FROM SKIM under COMMUNICATIONS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- With the DRBIII®, check for SKIM DTCs. Are any DTCs present in the SKIM? If yes, repair all SKIM DTCs. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If no, go to next step.
- With the DRBIII®, display the VIN that is programmed in the PCM. Has a VIN been programmed into the PCM? If yes, go to next step. If no, program the correct VIN into the PCM and retest.
- With the DRBIII®, display the VIN that is programmed in the PCM. Was the correct VIN programmed into the PCM? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
- Turn the ignition off. Replace and program the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, erase all SKIM and PCM DTCs. Attempt to start and idle the engine. With the DRBIII®, read the PCM DTCs. Does the DRBIII® display this code? If yes, replace the PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING . If no, test is complete.
- This DTC could have been set if the SKIM harness connector was disconnected, or if the SKIM was replaced recently. All keys that the customer uses for this vehicle must be tested to verify they are operating properly. Ensure the customer is not attempting to use a non-SKIM duplicate key. Turn the ignition on. Verify the correct VIN is programmed into the PCM and SKIM. Turn the ignition off. With the next customer key turn the ignition key on and crank the engine to start. With the DRBIII®, read the PCM DTCs. Is the Starts Since Set counter for DTC P1685 displayed and equal to zero? If yes, replace the Ignition Key. If no, test is complete. If this DTC cannot be reset, it could have been an actual theft attempt.
