Powertrain Verification Test VER-4
NOTE:
If replacing Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into PCM to prevent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from being stored in Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module, Air Bag Control Module (ACM) and Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM). If replacing PCM and vehicle is equipped with SKIM, secret key data must also be updated to enable engine starting. See PROGRAMMING .
- Inspect vehicle to ensure all engine and speed control system components are connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary. Using scan tool, record and erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from PCM.
- Road test vehicle at a speed greater than 35 MPH. Turn speed control switch on. Press and release SET switch and verify speed control engages. If speed control engages, go to next step. If speed control does not engage, go to step 11.
- With speed control engaged, depress and hold ACCEL switch. If vehicle speed increases, release switch and go to next step. If vehicle speed does not increase, go to step 11.
- Press and hold COAST switch. If vehicle speed decreases, release switch and go to next step. If vehicle speed does not decrease, go to step 11.
- Depress and release CANCEL switch. If speed control disengages, go to next step. If speed control does not disengage, go to step 11.
- Bring vehicle speed back to 35 MPH and depress RESUME switch. If vehicle resumes previously set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not resume previously set speed, go to step 11.
- Using caution, press and release brake pedal to activate brakelight switch. If speed control disengages, go to next step. If speed control does not disengage, go to step 11.
- Increase vehicle speed to more than 35 MPH. Press and release SET switch. If vehicle maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not set or maintain a new set speed, go to step 11.
- Depress and release ON/OFF switch to OFF position. If speed control disengages, go to next step. If speed control did not disengage, go to step 11.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If no DTCs are present and vehicle is operating as designed, repair is complete. If DTCs exist, or system is not operating as designed, go to next step.
- If speed control does not operate properly or DTCs exist, refer to appropriate diagnostic or repair procedures. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . Check for any related technical service bulletins that may apply.
