Instrument Cluster Dimming Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII, read DTCs. If the DRBIII displays PANEL DIMMER OPEN, see PANEL DIMMER OPEN . If the DRBIII does not display PANEL DIMMER OPEN, go to the next step.
  2. NOTE: Ensure that the Park Lamps operate properly before proceeding with this test.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the instrument cluster C1 harness connector. See Figure. Turn the park lamps on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the headlamp output circuit. If the test light illuminated brightly, go to the next step. If the test light did not illuminate brightly, repair the headlamp switch output circuit for an open.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Remove the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Remove the inoperative illumination bulb. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BULBS & LED under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Inspect the illumination bulb in question. If the illumination bulb filament is open, replace the illumination bulb. If the illumination bulb filament is not open, replace the instrument cluster.
