Courtesy Lamps On At All Times

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Close all doors and liftgate. Turn the panel lamps dimmer switch to the MID position. With the DRBIII, read the electro/mech cluster, I/O's. Observe the: Drv Door Ajar Sw, Dome Lamp, Pass Door Ajar Sw Output and the Liftgate Ajar Sw. If the DRBIII reads as follows:
    • Drv Door Ajar: CLOSED, go to next step.
    • Pass Door Ajar SW: CLOSED, go to step  5.
    • Liftgate Ajar SW: CLOSED, go to step  8.
    • Dome Lamp Output: ON, go to step  11.
If there is no DRBIII reading, replace the instrument cluster, courtesy lamps driver shorted. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  2. Open the drivers door. Disconnect the driver door ajar switch connector. See Figure. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the: Drv Door Ajar Sw - state. If the DRBIII shows: OPEN, replace the driver door ajar switch. If the DRBIII does not show: OPEN, go to the next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the driver door ajar switch connector. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. See Figure. Disconnect the RKE Module connector (if equipped). See Figure. Measure the resistance of the driver door ajar switch sense circuit from the door ajar switch connector to ground. If the resistance is below 100.0 ohms, repair the drivers door ajar switch sense wire for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 100.0 ohms, go to the next step.
  4. Ensure the instrument cluster is connected. Disconnect the RKE module connector. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the: Drv Door Ajar Sw - state. If the DRBIII shows: DRV DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, replace the remote keyless entry module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the DRBIII does not show: DRV DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  5. Close all passenger doors. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the Pas Door Ajar Sw state. Remove each passenger door ajar switch and observe the DRBIII. If when removing the door ajar switches, the DRBIII reads: PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, LEFT REAR DOOR OPEN, replace the applicable door ajar switch. If when removing the door ajar switches, the DRBIII does not read: PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, LEFT REAR DOOR OPEN, go to the next step.
  6. Remove all 3 passenger door ajar switches. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the Pas Door Ajar Sw state. Disconnect the RKE module connector while observing the DRBIII. If when the RKE module was disconnected, the DRBIII shows: PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, replace the remote keyless entry module. If when the RKE module was disconnected, the DRBIII did not show: PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, go to the next step.
  7. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect all 3 passenger door ajar switches. Disconnect the RKE module connector. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the passenger door ajar circuit in the passenger door ajar switch connector. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the passenger door ajar/RKE sense circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  8. Open the liftgate. Disconnect the liftgate ajar switch connector. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER-INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the liftgate ajar switch state. If the DRBIII shows: OPEN, replace the liftgate ajar switch. If the DRBIII does not show: OPEN, go to the next step.
  9. Disconnect the liftgate ajar switch. Disconnect the RKE module connector. With the DRBIII select: BODY ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER-INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the liftgate ajar switch state. If the DRBIII shows LIFTGATE AJAR SW: OPEN, replace the remote keyless entry module. If the DRBIII does not show LIFTGATE AJAR SW: OPEN, go to the next step.
  10. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the liftgate ajar switch connector. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the RKE module connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the liftgate ajar switch sense circuit. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the liftgate ajar switch sense circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, replace the instrument cluster.
  11. Turn the panel lamps dimmer switch to the MID position. Remove the instrument cluster. Measure the resistance between ground and the panel lamps dimmer signal circuit in the C2 connector. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, replace the instrument cluster. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, go to the next step.
  12. Disconnect the instrument cluster. Disconnect the multifunction switch connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the panel lamps dimmer signal circuit. If the resistance is below 200 ohms, repair the panel lamps dimmer signal circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 200 ohms, replace the multifunction switch.
