Liftgate Lock Motor To Lock Or Unlock
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Remove the liftgate trim panel to gain access to the liftgate lock motor connector. Disconnect the liftgate lock motor connector. See Figure. Connect a test light between the door lock relay output and the door unlock relay output circuits in the liftgate lock motor connector. Press the door lock switch to the lock and unlock positions. If the test light illuminated when the lock switch was pressed in both directions, replace the door lock motor. See LIFTGATE LOCK MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article. If the test light did not illuminate when the lock switch was pressed in both directions, go to the next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove the liftgate trim panel to gain access to the liftgate lock motor connector. Disconnect the liftgate lock motor connector. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the door unlock relay output circuit. With the DRBIII, actuate the door unlock relay and observe the test light. If the test light illuminated brightly when the relay was actuated, go to the next step. If the test light did not illuminate brightly when the relay was actuated, repair the door unlock relay output wire for an open.
- Turn ignition off. Remove the liftgate trim panel to gain access to the liftgate lock motor connector. Disconnect the liftgate lock motor connector. Disconnect the remote keyless entry module connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance of the door unlock relay output wire to ground. If the resistance is below 1000 ohms, repair the door unlock relay output wire for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 1000 ohms, go to the next step.
