Fuel Tank: Removal
- Release fuel system pressure (Refer to FUEL DELIVERY - STANDARD PROCEDURE ).
- Disconnect negative cable from battery.
- Pull back the trunk carpeting for access to the access panel of the fuel pump module.
- Remove the access panel for fuel pump.
- Disconnect the fuel lines.
- Remove rubber plug for access to fuel pump electrical connector.
- Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel pump module retaining nut.
- Remove the fuel pump module (Refer to FUEL PUMP MODULE - REMOVAL ).
- Drain the fuel tank.
- Raise and support vehicle
- Remove rear tires.
- Remove transaxle (Refer to
AUTOMATIC - 42LE - REMOVAL
).
- Remove the fuel filler hose clamps.
- Remove fuel filler hose from fuel tank (Fig 1).

- Disconnect fuel supply tube and the fuel return tube (Refer to QUICK CONNECT FITTING - REMOVAL ).
- Remove fuel lines from vehicle.
- Remove the 2 rear fuel tank strap bolts at the rear support.
- Reposition electrical harness from frame rail (Fig 2).

- Remove rear support retaining nuts.
- Remove rear support.
- Remove front support retaining bolts.
- Remove front support and fuel tank straps.
- Reposition fuel tank to access the vapor canister mount.
- Remove brake line retainer bolt at canister mount.
- Remove canister and mount.
- Push up and over on left side of tank. Lower fuel tank on the right side. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
