Programming Ignition Keys Using Scan Tool
- Obtain vehicles unique 4-digit PIN from customer or manufacturer. Obtain ALL ignition keys (used and new) for vehicle. Ensure vehicle is in Park or Neutral. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) under driver's side of instrument panel, left of steering column.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, SKIM then MISCELLANEOUS. Select PROGRAM IGNITION KEYS. Enter secured access code using 4-digit vehicle PIN.
- Using scan tool, select MISCELLANEOUS then ERASE ALL CURRENT IGN. KEYS. Program all ignition keys following scan tool instructions. A maximum of 8 keys can be programmed to vehicle.
If ignition key programming is unsuccessful, scan tool will display one of the following messages:
- PROGRAMMING NOT ATTEMPTED - Scan tool attempts to read programmed key status but no keys are programmed in SKIM memory.
- PROGRAMMING KEY FAILED - SKIM is unable to program ignition key because transponder in key is faulty or ignition key is programmed to another vehicle.
- 8 KEYS ALREADY LEARNED, PROGRAMMING NOT DONE - SKIM transponder is full.
- LEARNED KEY IN IGNITION - Ignition key currently inserted in ignition lock cylinder is already programmed to vehicle.
