Headlight Switch Short To Ground

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, record and erase DTC's. Turn the headlamps to the ON position. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs. If the DRBIII® displays HEADLAMP SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND, go to the next step. If the DRBIII® does not display HEADLAMP SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND, go to step  5.
  2. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Headlamp Switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, select BODY, BODY CONTROL MODULE and read the Headlamp Switch Sensor voltage. If the DRB displays a Headlamp Switch Voltage of more than 4.8 volts, replace the Headlamp Switch. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If the DRB does not display a Headlamp Switch Voltage of more than 4.8 volts, go to the next step.
  3. NOTE: Check connectors, clean/repair as necessary.
  4. Turn the ignition off to the lock position. Disconnect the Body Control Module harness connector. See Figure. Disconnect the Headlamp Switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Measure the resistance between ground and the Headlamp Switch MUX circuit. If the resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair the Headlamp Switch MUX Circuit for a short to ground. Go to next step.
  5. Turn the ignition off to the lock position. Disconnect the Body Control Module harness connector. See Figure. Disconnect the Headlamp Switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Measure the resistance between the Headlamp Switch MUX Return circuit and the Headlamp Switch MUX circuit. If the resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair the Headlamp Switch MUX circuit for a short to the Headlamp Switch MUX Return circuit. If the resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace the Body Control Module. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit. Wiggle the wiring while checking for shorts and open circuits. If there were there any problems found, repair as necessary. If there were no problems found, the test is complete.
