No PCM Bus Messages Received

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  1. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, enter INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, SYSTEM TESTS then PCM MONITOR. If the DRBIII® displays: PCM is active on the BUS, erase the DTC, if DTC resets, replace the Instrument Cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If the DRBIII® does not display: PCM is active on the BUS, go to the next step.
  2. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, attempt to communicate with the PCM. If the DRBIII® was able to communicate with the PCM, go to the next step. If the DRBIII® was not able to communicate with the PCM, refer to the Communication category of the DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table and perform the appropriate symptom. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table.
  3. NOTE: Do not connect the tester to the DRBIII®.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. See Figure. Connect the diagnostic junction port tester No. 8339 to the diagnostic junction port. Measure the resistance of the PCI Bus circuit between the diagnostic junction port tester and the PCM C2 connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, replace and program the Powertrain Control Module. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the PCI Bus circuit for an open.
