Power Liftgate Inoperative
- Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Body Control Module (BCM) and Power Liftgate Module (PLGM). If scan tool communicates with both modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with one or both modules, go to BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM BCM or BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM POWER LIFTGATE MODULE under COMMUNICATIONS.
- Using scan tool, check DTCs in BCM and PLGM. If DTCs are not set for liftgate, go to next step. If any liftgate DTCs are set, go to appropriate diagnostic procedure and repair as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Using scan tool, select POWER LIFTGATE, MISCELLANEOUS then LAST INHIBIT MONITOR. If no INHIBIT REASONS are displayed, go to next step. If any INHIBIT REASONS are displayed, system is operating properly at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits. Visually inspect liftgate for proper alignment, damaged strikers, damaged latches or obstructions. Repair as necessary. If possible, check operation of liftgate on a known-good vehicle. If liftgate effort is excessive, diagnose power liftgate by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE article.
- Close liftgate. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM TEST. Perform open, close, latch cinch, latch release and relay test. If any test fails, diagnose wiring and connectors for appropriate failed system. See POWER DOOR LOCKS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If no tests fail, test is complete.
