Incomplete Power Open - Latch Failure
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using scan tool, record and erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Operate power sliding door several times if possible. Recheck for DTCs. If INCOMPLETE POWER OPEN - LATCH FAILURE resets, go to next step. If INCOMPLETE POWER OPEN - LATCH FAILURE does not reset, system is operating properly at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits.
- Visually inspect sliding door for proper alignment, damaged strikers, damaged latches or obstructions. Repair as necessary. If possible, check operation of sliding door on a known-good vehicle. If sliding door effort is excessive, diagnose power sliding door. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE article. If sliding door effort is not excessive, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select INPUTS/OUTPUTS and monitor PAWL, RATCHET and FULL OPEN switch state. While monitoring FULL OPEN switch state, manually move sliding door from full open to mid position. If FULL OPEN switch state does not change from CLOSED to OPEN, go to next step. If FULL OPEN switch state changes from CLOSED to OPEN, monitor PAWL switch state. Open sliding door to full open position. Using a screwdriver, manually move sliding door cinch/release motor latch to first click (detent). If PAWL switch state does not change from CLOSED to OPEN, go to step 7. If PAWL switch state changes from CLOSED to OPEN, monitor RATCHET switch state. Using a screwdriver, manually move sliding door cinch/release motor latch to second click (detent). If RATCHET switch state does not change from CLOSED to OPEN, go to step 9. If RATCHET switch state changes from CLOSED to OPEN, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Power Sliding Door Module (PSDM) connector C2. See POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure resistance between PSDM connector C2 terminals No. 14 (Orange wire) and No. 20 (Black/Tan wire). See Figure or Figure. Open sliding door to full open position and partially close while monitoring DVOM. If resistance does not change from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when sliding door is partially closed, go to next step. If resistance changes from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when sliding door is partially closed, replace PSDM.
- Disconnect full open switch connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Orange wire between PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 14 and full open switch connector terminal No. 1. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Orange wire.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 14 (Orange wire). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms and steady, replace full open switch (part of lower drive motor). If resistance is 1000 ohms or less or varies, repair short to ground in Orange wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Power Sliding Door Module (PSDM) connector C2. See POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PSDM connector C2 terminals No. 13 (Orange/Yellow wire). See Figure or Figure. Open sliding door. Using a screwdriver, manually move sliding door cinch/release motor latch to first click (detent) and release latch while monitoring DVOM. If resistance does not change from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when latch is closed and released, go to next step. If resistance changes from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when latch is closed and released, replace PSDM.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of Orange/Yellow wire between PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 13 and sliding door latch sensing switch connector terminal No. 2. See Figure. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, replace sliding door latch sensing switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Orange/Yellow wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Power Sliding Door Module (PSDM) connector C2. See POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PSDM connector C2 terminals No. 12 (Tan/Orange wire). See Figure or Figure. Open sliding door. Using a screwdriver, manually move sliding door cinch/release motor latch to second click (detent) and release latch while monitoring DVOM. If resistance does not change from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when latch is closed and released, go to next step. If resistance changes from less than 15 ohms to greater than 1000 ohms when latch is closed and released, replace PSDM.
- Disconnect sliding door latch sensing switch connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 12 and sliding door latch sensing switch connector terminal No. 3. See Figure. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, replace sliding door latch sensing switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Tan/Orange wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Power Sliding Door Module (PSDM) connector C2. See POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure resistance between PSDM connector C2 terminals No. 8 (Tan/Gray wire) and No. 9 (Tan/White wire). See Figure or Figure. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 2 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms or varies, go to step 13.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 8 (Tan/Gray wire). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is 100 ohms or less or varies, check for short to ground in Tan/Gray or Tan/White wires between PSDM and sliding door cinch/release motor. See POWER DOOR LOCKS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace shorted cinch/release motor. If resistance is steady at greater than 100 ohms, replace sliding door cinch/release motor.
- Disconnect sliding door cinch/release motor connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/Gray wire between PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 8 and sliding door cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 1 (right sliding door) or No. 4 (left sliding door). See Figure. Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less or varies, repair open in Tan/Gray wire.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/White wire between PSDM connector C2 terminal No. 9 and sliding door cinch/release motor connector terminal No. 4 (right sliding door) or No. 1 (left sliding door). Wiggle wiring harness with DVOM connected. If resistance is steady at 5 ohms or less, replace sliding door cinch/release motor. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms or varies, repair open in Tan/White wire.
