System Operation Check

  1. Ensure ignition key can only be removed from ignition switch with gearshift lever in Park.
  2. Ensure gearshift lever is in Park with gearshift lever handle in released position. Ignition switch should rotate freely from OFF position to LOCK position. Ignition switch should not rotate to LOCK position with gearshift lever in any other position.
  3. Shifting from Park should be possible when ignition switch is in OFF position and brake pedal is depressed.
  4. Shifting from Park should not be possible while pulling rearward on gearshift lever handle unless brake pedal is depressed with ignition switch in ON/RUN or START position.
  5. Gearshift lever should be locked in Park when ignition switch is in ACC or LOCK positions. Gearshift lever should be able to be moved into any position with ignition switch in OFF position.
  6. With ignition switch in ON/RUN or START position, gearshift lever should be able to be moved into any position including Park without depressing brake pedal.
  7. If system operation is not as specified, solenoid may be malfunctioning. Diagnose and repair as necessary. See SYMPTOM TESTS  .
