DTC P0850: Park/Neutral Switch Performance: Testing

  1. Ignition on, engine not running. Before continuing, ensure that communication can be established with the TCM. If the DRBIII® scan tool can not communicate with the TCM, diagnose communication fault. Perform appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. With the DRBIII® scan tool, read PCM DTCs and record the related freeze frame data. Is the Good Trip displayed and equal to zero? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII® scan tool, check the Transmission DTCs. Are there any Transmission DTCs present? If yes, refer to the appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If no, before continuing disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
