Powertrain Verification Test VER-5

NOTE: If replacing the PCM, the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into PCM to prevent DTCs from being stored in Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module, and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). If replacing PCM and vehicle is equipped with a Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must also be updated to enable engine starting. See PROGRAMMING . After completing this verification test, the 42LE Transmission verification test must be performed.
  1. Inspect vehicle to ensure all engine components are connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary.
  2. Connect DRBIII® scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), if not previously done. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Turn off all accessories.
  3. Ensure all DTCs are cleared. If a Comprehensive Component DTC was repaired, go to next step. If a Major OBD-II Monitor DTC was repaired, go to step  5.
  4. After the ignition has been off for at least 10 seconds, restart the vehicle and run for 2 minutes. Go to step  6.
  5. Using DRBIII® scan tool, monitor the appropriate pre-test enabling conditions until all conditions have been met. Once the conditions have been met, switch screen to the appropriate OBD-II monitor (audible beeps are heard when the monitor is running). Go to next step.
  6. If the conditions cannot be duplicated, clear all DTCs. Did the OBD-II Monitor test run successfully and has the Good Trip counter changed to one or more? If yes, test is complete. Perform transmission verification test. See 42LE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If no, check for any related technical service bulletins that apply to symptom. If repaired DTC has reset, proceed to appropriate DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If necessary, go to INTERMITTENTS in appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom.
