Fuel Rail: Removal

WARNING: THE FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER CONSTANT FUEL PRESSURE EVEN WITH ENGINE OFF. THIS PRESSURE MUST BE RELEASED BEFORE SERVICING THE FUEL RAIL.
  1. Remove the air cleaner housing. See 3.2L V6 article.
  2. Remove the fuel rail trim panel screw and then remove the fuel rail trim panel (1).

  3. WARNING: PLACE A SHOP TOWEL AROUND FUEL LINES TO CATCH ANY EXCESS FUEL.
  4. Release the fuel pressure through the fuel rail service valve (7).
  5. Disconnect the fuel feed line (3) at the fuel rail.
  6. Remove the fuel injector harness connector retaining clips (5), then disconnect the fuel injector harness connectors (6) from the fuel injectors (4).
  7. Remove the fuel rail bolts (8) attaching the fuel rail (2) to the intake manifold.
  8. Remove the fuel rail (2) with the fuel injectors (4) by moving the fuel rail (2) side to side and lifting gently upward.
