Fuel Pump Module: Removal
- Release the fuel pressure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK .
- Vacuum area before removing fuel pump module lock ring.
- Disconnect the vapor line and electrical connector (Fig 1).
- Remove the Fuel Pump Module lock ring (Fig 2).NOTE: Use a brass punch to remove the 1/4 turn lock ring. Make contact only at the points shown (Fig 3).
- Remove the fuel pump module top.
- Drain Fuel Tank, use an approved GASOLINE draining station.
- Disconnect the electrical connector (Fig 4).
- The wire connector to the passenger side level sensor needs to be disconnected before removing the reservoir from the tank.
- Tab location in fuel pump module for return line and fuel supply line (Fig 5).
- Remove the return line from pump module. Use a small screwdriver to pry tab back (Fig 6) and tip hose to one side and then pry the tab on the other side back to release the hose.
CAUTION: Care should be taken to not crack/break the locking tabs or the supply line fitting.
- Remove the fuel line from the top of the pump module. Use a small screwdriver to pry tab back and tip hose to one side and then pry the tab on the other side back to release the hose.
- Tip fuel pump module on its side to remove fuel from the reservoir.CAUTION: Do not spill fuel on the inside of the vehicle.
- Remove the fuel pump module.
