Ignition Control - Description

DESCRIPTION - IGNITION SYSTEM

NOTE: All engines use a fixed ignition timing system. Basic ignition timing is not adjustable. All spark advance is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The 3.8L engine uses a distributorless ignition system and is commonly referred to as Direct Ignition System (DIS). The 4.0L engine uses a Coil on Plug design. The system's main components are the ignition coils, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor and spark plugs.
