Test Description

The number(s) below refer to step(s) on diagnosis table.

  1. 1. On-Board Diagnostic (OBD I I) System Check prompts technician to complete some basic checks and store freeze frame and failure records data on scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of data taken when malfunction occurred. The information is then stored on scan tool for later reference.
  2. 2. Make sure DTCs P0131, P0132 and P0134 are not set.
  3. 3. If O2S1 pigtail wiring, connector or terminals are damaged, entire O2S1 assembly must be replaced. Do not attempt to repair wires, connector or terminals. For sensor to function properly, a clean air reference must be provided to it. This clean air reference is obtained through O2S1 wire(s). Any attempt to repair wires, connectors or terminals could result in obstruction of air reference and degrade O2S1 performance. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation or a wire broken inside insulation.
  4. 9. Perform an intermittent test. If connections and harness check okay, monitor a Digital Voltmeter (DVM) connected between ECT sensor signal circuit and ground circuit terminals while moving related connectors and wiring harness. If a fault is induced, resistance reading will change. This may help to isolate location of malfunction.
  5. 10. The replacement PCM/ECM must be reprogrammed.
