Check battery for obvious damage, such as a cracked or broken case or cover, which could permit loss of electrolyte. If damage is obvious, replace battery.
CAUTION:
Do not charge battery if hydrometer is clear or light yellow. Instead, replace battery. If battery feels hot, or if violent gassing or spewing of electrolyte through vent hole occurs, discontinue charging or reduce charging rate to avoid personal injury.
CAUTION:
The battery temperature must be estimated by touch, taking into consideration ambient temperature to which battery has been exposed for preceding few hours.
