Charging Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, repair powertrain concern as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on and observe charging indicator. If charging indicator illuminates for 3-10 seconds, go to next step. If charging indicator does not illuminate for 3-10 seconds, replace instrument cluster.
  3. Check charging system operation. If charging system is operating properly, replace instrument cluster. If charging system is not operating properly, repair charging system as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
