Sensor, Boost Pressure: Operation
When the intake manifold pressure is low (high vacuum) sensor voltage output is 0.25-1.8 volts at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When the intake manifold pressure is high due to turbo boost, sensor voltage output is 2.0-4.7 volts. The sensor receives a 5-volts reference from the PCM. Sensor ground is also provides by the PCM. The PCM uses boost pressure combined with intake air temperature to determine the volume of air entering the engine. regulate the pressure of the variable geometry turbine in order to ensure optimum engine performance in all operating conditions. The boost pressure sensor is regulate the pressure of the variable geometry turbine in order to ensure optimum engine performance in all operating conditions and to regulate fuel injection duration.
The combination, dual function Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor/MAP Sensor is installed into the top of the intake manifold with the sensor element extending into the air stream.
The IAT portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating intake manifold air temperature. The MAP portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the PCM indicating turbocharger boost pressure.
