Solenoid, Variable Valve Timing: Removal: Right

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner resonator. Refer to RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, REMOVAL .

  4. Carefully position a floor jack under the engine to support.
  5. Remove the bolts (1) from the right engine mount (2) to timing cover.
  6. Reposition the engine in order to gain access to the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoids.

    NOTE:

    Mark the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid connectors (1) with a paint pen or equivalent so that they may be installed in their original locations.

  7. Mark the intake VVT solenoid (2) and the exhaust VVT solenoid (4) with a paint pen or equivalent so that they may be installed in their original locations.
  8. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the VVT solenoid (2, 4).
  9. Remove the VVT solenoid mounting bolts (3).

  10. Pull the VVT solenoid from the cylinder head cover.
    NOTE:

    The seal (1) can be reused if it is not damaged.
