Sensor, Coolant Temperature: Removal

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (1) on the 3.6L engine is installed into a water jacket at rear of the cylinder head on the left side of the engine.

WARNING:

Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

NOTE:

Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. If equipped, remove the belly pan.
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector.
  6. Remove the coolant temperature sensor (1) from the cylinder head.
