Starter Motor: Service and Repair

If shims are used to position starter motor, note location of shims, as shims must be reinstalled in the same locations during starter installation.

Man. Trans.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect cable from starter motor terminal.
3. Detach vibration bracket at front axle tube.
4. Remove bolts attaching bracket to flywheel housing, then loosen bolt at starter motor.
5. Swing bracket downward, away from starter motor, then remove remaining attaching bolt and starter motor.
6. Reverse procedure to install.
Auto. Trans.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect cable from starter motor terminal.
3. Detach front section of bracket from front axle tube, then detach rear section of bracket from converter housing.
4. Remove attaching bolts and starter motor.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
