Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor

  1. With the engine at room temperature 70°F (20°C), unplug sensor wire connector. Using digital volt-ohmmeter (DVOM), test the sensor resistance. It should be between 3000-4000 ohms.
  2. Start engine and bring to operating temperature. At 100°F (38°C), the resistance should be 1600 ohms. At 160°F (70°C), resistance should be 450 ohms. At 212°F (100°C), resistance should be 185 ohms. If readings are not to specifications, replace sensor.
  3. Using DVOM, check resistance between ECU terminal "C8" and MAT sensor wire connector. Also check resistance between ECU terminal "D3" and MAT sensor wire connector. If either resistance is greater than one ohm, replace or repair sensor wire harness.
