Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

  1. Disconnect TPS electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, backprobe TPS harness connector between terminals "B" and "C".
  2. Voltmeter should read approximately 5 volts. If voltmeter reading is incorrect, test vehicle with DRB-II (C-4805 ). If voltmeter reading is correct, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between TPS terminal "B" and ground. If circuit is open, test vehicle with DRB-II (C-4805 ). If continuity is present, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect TPS electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between TPS terminal "A" and ground. Voltmeter should read approximately .5-1.0 volt.
  5. If voltmeter reading is correct, TPS is okay. If voltmeter reading is incorrect, attempt to adjust TPS. If TPS cannot be adjusted within specification, replace TPS.
