EGR Valve
- Disconnect the EGR solenoid electrical connector. By-pass backpressure transducer by connecting EGR solenoid output directly to EGR valve. If EGR valve is good, the engine should idle roughly or stall. Proceed to BACKPRESSURE TRANSDUCER . If idle does not change, go to step 2).
- Disconnect vacuum hose from EGR and replace with hand operated vacuum pump. Apply at least 12 in. Hg of vacuum to valve. If engine now idles roughly or dies, check vacuum lines between EGR valve and intake manifold also check the line between transducer and EGR base. If no leaks are found, proceed to BACKPRESSURE TRANSDUCER .
- If idle did not change in step 2), remove EGR valve. Inspect both the EGR valve and exhaust passage in manifold for blockage, repair as necessary. If no blockage is found, replace EGR valve.
