EGR System (California)

  1. Disconnect vacuum hose (Green striped) from EGR 3-way vacuum connector. Connect a hand vacuum pump to valve nipple.
  2. With engine coolant temperature 140°F (60°C) or less, press the accelerator quickly and observe vacuum gauge. There should be no change in pressure (atmospheric pressure).
  3. With engine coolant temperature 158°F (70°C) or more, press the accelerator quickly and observe vacuum gauge. There should be a temporary rise in pressure to 3.9 in. Hg.
  4. Disconnect vacuum pump from 3-way connector and connect it directly to EGR valve vacuum nipple. Apply 5.9 in. Hg or more. Engine should stall or exhibit unstable idle condition.
