Starter Relay Test

  1. Do not disconnect starter relay connector. Backprobe starter relay connector. Connect a voltmeter between starter relay terminal No. 2 (White wire) and ground. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Turn ignition switch to the START position. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If voltmeter does not read battery voltage, repair open circuit from ignition switch.
  2. Connect voltmeter between terminals No. 1 (Yellow wire) and No. 5 (Yellow wire). Turn ignition switch to the START position. Voltmeter should read zero volts. If voltmeter does not read zero volts, repair ground circuit.
  3. Connect voltmeter between terminal No. 4 (Brown wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to START position. Voltmeter should read battery voltage. If voltmeter does not read battery voltage, replace starter relay.
