EGR Valve Solenoid Test

  1. With engine at normal operating temperature, connect vacuum gauge to manifold vacuum. Vacuum gauge should read a minimum of 15 in. Hg. If vacuum is low, check hose for damage, kinks and proper connection. If vacuum is okay, proceed to next step.
  2. Disconnect vacuum line from transducer side of solenoid (output side) and connect vacuum gauge. If the reading is zero inches of vacuum, go to step 3) If reading is not to specification, check solenoid/ECU operation with Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB-II) and Jeep/Eagle adapter or similar scan tool, repair as necessary.
  3. If reading was zero inches of vacuum in step 2), disconnect electrical connector at EGR valve solenoid. Vacuum gauge should now show vacuum is present. If vacuum is not present, replace solenoid. Proceed to EGR VALVE test.
